I, Sunil Kumar, am a proud father of the values and personality that my child is developing for his life.
Last year, my son Srijeet surprised us by winning the Best Delegate award at a Model United Nations (MUN) competition held at GEMS New Millennium School, Dubai. As a parent, I always wish for my child to do well in academics, and frankly speaking, we are often not fully aware of a child’s inner intellect and other aspects of their personality.
Srijeet’s academic performance has been consistently strong, as he has regularly achieved scholar badges and excellent results. However, the broader aspects of his personality were not fully known to us, and we considered him an average boy of his age. Last year, when the MUN event came up, I noticed his dedication, his involvement in home discussions, and notably, a visible improvement in his critical thinking and confidence levels. Although I had never imagined that he would win the Best Delegate award, when he brought the trophy home, it was a moment of immense pride for our family. I learned that a child’s potential should never be underestimated. This achievement inspired me, and I subsequently began spending more quality time discussing various topics with him.
After some time, I attended a Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) at the school, and it made me even more proud of him. All his teachers praised his skills in organising social events, maintaining classroom discipline, and his leadership qualities. This encouraged me to engage more deeply with him regarding his academics and future plans.
His persistence, dedication, and hard work towards achieving his goals also inspired me to work harder in my own life. His consistent efforts ultimately led him to achieve an excellent aggregate of 97% in the Grade 10 Board Examinations. It was a proud and memorable moment for our entire family; his grandparents were equally happy and proud of him.
These accomplishments reflect the student’s personality, discipline, determination, and overall development. They also highlight his courage to face challenges and his willingness to step out of his comfort zone. I strongly believe that teachers understand children better than parents, and when parents actively engage with schools and teachers, children can progress to a much higher level. As parents, we are deeply grateful to the school environment at DPS Sharjah for encouraging such talents and fostering confidence in students in all walks of life.
