FAB Day was nothing short of fabulous – nerves, excitement, glitter, and a whole lot of adorable chaos! The air buzzed with anticipation as our youngest Dipsites geared up to step on stage for the very first time. Parents were seated, phones poised like paparazzi, ready to capture every moment and possibly every sneeze.
Our class had the honour of representing South Africa, and oh, what a sight we were! The children looked absolutely vibrant in their colourful costumes, topped off with hair accessories, wristbands, and enough enthusiasm to light up a small city.
As our turn approached, my heart was doing cartwheels – maybe even more than the kids. But the little ones marched up to the stage with surprising confidence, ready to show off their well-rehearsed moves. I stood at the side, half holding my breath, watching them dance. And they were adorable! Every wiggle, sway, and slightly off-beat spin made me beam with pride.
Just when everything was going smoothly, drama struck – as it often does in the world of tiny dancers. One little girl suddenly dashed off stage mid-performance and ran straight to me, clutching her wristband like it was a national treasure. “Ma’am! It came off!” she said, wide-eyed.
Now, in my head, I had a mini panic attack but outwardly, I smiled and said, “It’s okay, sweetheart! Just go dance!” She simply handed me the rogue wristband, nodded like a soldier receiving orders, and ran back on stage to continue dancing like nothing had happened.
The audience loved it. Cheers erupted! It was like a scene from a feel-good movie. And in that moment, I realised something heartwarming and slightly tear inducing, she trusted me. Completely. For her, it wasn’t about the lost wristband – it was about handing it over to her teacher before continuing.
Moments like these don’t just happen – they’re built on bonds, trust, and about a hundred snack breaks. And honestly, that’s the real magic of teaching – knowing you’re their safe space… even during a dance emergency!
