Parenting is a skill that gets fine-tuned with your child’s growth. It is a test of mutual development and understanding.

I am Vedavalli Rengarajan, mother of Raghav Krishna Seshadri Sumanth (Grade 11) and Madhav Krishna Seshadri Sumanth (Grade 8)

When our children are in the playful age of Pre-KG and kindergarten, we yearn for the time when they will become responsible and independent, but when that time arrives (and it does arrive quite quickly!), we yearn and reminisce those yester-years.

These memories and connections with our children are strongly interlinked with their school, and I am proud to say that DPS Sharjah has complimented my journey as a parent by providing numerous opportunities, developing responsibility and instilling the right morals and values in my children.

As parents, we are not aware and completely knowledgeable about the various opportunities and competitions that can improve and develop our children. I vividly remember the time when my elder son’s math teacher approached me when he was in the   4 th grade, suggesting that he has the skills and prowess to join the school’s First Lego League (FLL) team. I was doubtful at first, considering that this was his first interschool national competition, however, after due consideration, I accepted her invitation, and, from that point onwards, has ignited their journey through numerous national and international competitions.

Amidst academic and co-curricular activities, I also ensure that my children have enough time for recreational activities. From music classes on the weekends to touring on the vacations, I ensure that my children get enough relaxation and creative time for their overall development.

“Woods are lovely dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I sleep.”

This quote by Robert Frost is my mantra to educate my children about responsibility and hard work. If one wants to accept opportunities and responsibilities, he requires the perseverance and dedication that comes along with them, and it is our duty as parents to instill that sense of determination and resilience in our children.

Finally, no academic development is complete without moral development. It is our sworn duty to instill the right values, moral compass and ethics in our children. In an age of moral deterioration, we should ensure that our children do not distance themselves from their conscience, national culture and the values on which it is based upon. I am again happy to say that character development has always been the highest priority of DPS Sharjah Parents of DPS Sharjah place 100 percent trust in the teachers and staff of the school as they consider them a mirror image of their parents; and I am proud to say that the teachers and staff have lived up to that trust.
