Three years ago, I had the joy of teaching a student named Mihan, a child full of energy, curiosity, and just the right amount of mischief to keep things interesting in the classroom. He was one of those students who could be a little naughty, yes, but never in a way that was unkind. His playful nature brought laughter and liveliness into the room, reminding me that learning should always have room for joy.
Even with his mischievous smile and occasional antics, Mihan had a heart of gold, something I came to appreciate more deeply with time. What I didn’t expect was how that quiet, thoughtful side of him would continue to shine long after he left my classroom.
Since the day he moved on, every Teachers’ Day without fail, Mihan has found a way to surprise me.
Each year, I receive a beautiful card, always handmade and filled with genuine, heartfelt words that move me more than I can say. Alongside the card, he includes a Lindt dark chocolate bar, my absolute favourite. It’s a simple gesture, but one that speaks volumes. It shows that he remembers, he cares, and that the bond we built in the classroom still holds meaning.
In those moments, I don’t just think of the little boy who once made the class giggle with his mischief, I see a young person growing with values, gratitude, and a deeply thoughtful heart.
Mihan’s gestures are sweet, sincere, and unforgettable, much like him. He has shown me something truly special: that even the most mischievous students often carry the greatest capacity for kindness and appreciation.
I am so proud to have been his teacher, and even prouder of the person he is becoming. He turns what could be an ordinary day into something truly meaningful. Every time I see the familiar chocolate and open his card, I am reminded why I chose this profession in the first place.
He makes my Teachers’ Day truly special — and I cherish it every single time.
