My daughter Zainab has always been a little explorer. At two, she knew A to Z—while I was still figuring out how to stop her from tasting crayons! By three, she could read two- and three-letter words and even count 100, 200, 300… yet she barely spoke a word. Imagine having a tiny genius at home who could read books but wouldn’t say “hi” to you!
During that challenging but magical phase, every night we read stories together. Sometimes I read, sometimes she read, and slowly, I learned to meet her at her level – to come down into her world so she could grow in hers. Patience became our daily exercise, and humor was our companion.
And then, the magic happened. In just a year, Zainab found her voice. She started talking about her friends, school activities, and her little adventures. She even started speaking on stage – boldly, clearly, and with joy that could light up the room. The quiet girl who once stayed silent now shares everything, from classroom stories to her excitement about “what’s next?”
Academically too, she bloomed. The girl who struggled with writing can now complete her schoolwork independently, and she even does addition confidently. Beyond numbers and letters, her emotional growth has been remarkable – she expresses her feelings, understands others, and embraces every little challenge with enthusiasm.
Looking back, it feels like a dream. The Zainab of today – confident, articulate, independent – emerged from the quiet, observant little girl I once worried about. She has taught me invaluable lessons about patience, trust, and the power of encouragement.
Takeaway: Every child grows in their own rhythm. Slow down, meet them where they are, and cheer them on – because the quietest child today might just be the boldest speaker tomorrow.
