Expected events sometimes take unexpected turns. One such occasion was our prestigious Alumni Meet, an event that brought together generations of students under one roof. I had the responsibility of coordinating the entire programme. The school’s lush green field had been beautifully transformed into a vibrant venue. Round tables were arranged neatly, fairy lights twinkled along the pathways, and colourful food stalls were ready to welcome our guests.

Everything was set. Only an hour remained before the programme was to begin.

Then came the unexpected guest!

Dark clouds gathered silently, and within minutes the sky burst open. What started as a drizzle quickly turned into a relentless downpour. The beautifully decorated field began to disappear under sheets of rain. For a brief moment, everyone stood frozen.

There was no time to panic.

Instinctively, I made the call: “Shift everything to the Primary Auditorium.” Within seconds, teachers, support staff, and volunteers sprang into action. Tables were moved, sound systems relocated, decorations reassembled, and food counters reorganized.

What seemed like a potential disaster transformed into a remarkable display of teamwork and determination. Amazingly, everything was ready even before the first guests arrived.

The alumni walked into a warm, lively auditorium, completely unaware of the storm that had threatened the evening just an hour earlier.

That day reaffirmed a simple truth-change is the only permanent reality. A leader must not only plan carefully but also adapt swiftly, embrace the unexpected, and move forward with confidence.
